The gig economy is a reality.
According to a study by Flexing It, as many as 72% of all gig projects in India were in large corporate and professional service firms in 2018-2019 compared with 52% two years ago. Strategy, followed by technology and marketing accounted for half of the projects.
Why is this happening?
The truth is no organization has the skillset it needs to grow or stay competitive. However, that doesn’t mean these skills aren’t out there. They are.
At a time when businesses are being upended by disruption, creativity and creative ways of working are more important than ever. Clients increasingly want a different, more collaborative working relationship with talent to get to better ideas and smarter strategies, faster with less fuss and at a fairer price. You can think of it as "the heads without the overheads."
Smart talent doesn’t want to work for people, they want to work with people. They don’t want to work on projects that take as long as possible. Or be stuck within an organization with layers of decision making. They want to work with empowered teams. With mash-ups of unlikely people with diverse skillsets to build collaborative solutions with measurable outcomes. And they want to be paid fairly.
Studio Jigsaw steps in to fill this gap. We’re piloting a new Operating System for businesses built for the realities of 21st-century working life. We’re assembling a diverse group of independent thinkers and makers with stand-out track-records and great connections brought together through shared beliefs and values. There's no internal email. There's no HQ. There's no org chart. No petty politics but a clear brief and a clear challenge.
All the 20th-century structures have been stripped away, allowing clients access to the best talent, and talent the access to the best briefs. Simple, transparent and quick. No problem looks alike, so no team is alike. We believe in a flexible, adaptive model designed to work better for everyone. Productivity has nothing to do with being chained to a desk; technology allows us all to work in a way that fits work around our lives.
So independents, freelancers, and creatives: it doesn’t matter what your skill set is. There is probably a need for it.
Businesses of all shapes and sizes: we must forge new alliances, facilitate collaboration and openly exchange ideas as we work together.
